Despite a modest upbringing and being “subpar student” by his own estimation, Austin Marxe was able to graduate from Baruch College in 1965, and go on to work on Wall Street before founding his own investment firm and accumulating more wealth and success than anyone ever could have been predicted. Humbled and deeply grateful for the start Baruch gave him, Marxe decided to donate a whopping 30 million dollars to the college’s School of Public and International Affairs to provide scholarships and opportunities to a new generation of students.
