Lawrence Kopp, Founder and President
Lawrence Kopp has a distinguished background in diverse business fields including the advocacy and non-profit sector, the political and public policy world and the entertainment industry.
After attending Phillips Academy Andover and New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, Mr. Kopp spent 15 years in the entertainment industry as a professional actor and director. He helped found and launch the critically acclaimed Atlantic Theater Company with the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and film director David Mamet and actors W. H. Macy and Felicity Huffman. Mr. Kopp has appeared in major feature films, on network television and in over forty plays across the country. For two seasons, he appeared as a principle actor in guest-starring roles on the NBC hit TV show, Law and Order. He also starred in the world premiere of a David Mamet play at Lincoln Center. Mr. Kopp had a principle role in the blockbuster film, Dumb and Dumber, David Mamet's film, Homicide, was a regular on the ABC TV series, Supercarrier, and has appeared numerous times on All My Children.
After a lengthy career in the entertainment industry, Mr. Kopp entered the world of politics and advocacy where he learned how to synthesize his training as a professional actor and director into the political, advocacy and private sector worlds. As a trained story-teller with experience behind and in front of the camera, he has been able to assist companies, organizations and campaigns to theatricalize a message, to craft and distill the talking points of a cause or complex public policy issue or business objective and to strengthen the communication skills of a senior management team.
Mr. Kopp has helped launch and manage national advocacy organizations in the fields of race relations, the balanced budget issue and social security reform. He was previously the Executive Director of The Foundation for Ethnic Understanding, a national non-profit dedicated to strengthening relations between ethnic communities chaired by Hip-Hop mogul Russell Simmons.
Mr. Kopp has managed and worked on presidential, statewide, congressional and New York City mayoral campaigns. He was the Deputy Campaign Manager for Eliot Spitzer when he was first elected New York State Attorney General. He has raised money for Eliot Spitzer's campaign for Governor in 2006, John Kerry's campaign for President in 2004, and Bill Clinton's campaign for President in 1992.
Mr. Kopp has served as a political and policy commentator on New York 1's talk show "Inside City Hall" and on CNN's "Inside Politics." He has appeared on numerous network news programs, including morning shows on local affiliate stations such as WNBC and WCBS, cable talk shows and radio programs in several states across the country. He has been quoted in leading periodicals and newspapers across the nation.
Mr. Kopp was born in Boston and raised on Cape Cod. He graduated from Phillips Academy Andover and received his B.A. in political science from Columbia University where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude.
